Egypt: Karnak Pictures

The entrance to the Karnak temple complex.

The Avenue of the Sphinxes. This avenue extended for 3 km to the Temple of Luxor, which we'll post pictures of in the next blog entry.

The Egyptians did things on a grand scale.

This is the Great Hypostyle Hall.

For scale. These columns were BIG.

An obelisk. 28 survived the years, although only eight of these remain in Egypt.

Two of them for scale.

An up close shot for a detail view.

It is said that if you walk in a circle around this scarab three times, your dreams will come true. Naturally, we all did. Just in case.

The Temple of Luxor is next.
