Hi everyone!
We've gotten back from our 7 day Tanzanian safari. It was a very bumpy and long ride, but we saw all kinds of cool things. Unfortunately, we haven't found anywhere in Nairobi (although I'm sure it exists somewhere around this large city) that can put our pictures on CD because our memory card is 4GB and the machines here can't read it, so pictures may have to wait a few weeks until we get to Israel, or if we can find somewhere to do it before then, we will.
We spent last week in Tanzania driving around the northern circuit parks. We went to Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, the Olduvai Gorge (the place where they found the footprints and fossils from the upright man 3.6 million years ago - wow!), and finally, the Ngorogoro Crater.
We saw:
Lions
Water Buffalo
Elephants
Black Rhinos
Tons of Zebras
Tons of Wildebeest/Gnus
Various species of antelope
Dik diks (a very small antelope)
Serval
All kinds of beautiful birds
Many hippos (fighting even!)
Hyenas (chasing a huge herd of wildebeasts!)
Jackals
Giraffes (even saw two of them 'necking')
We even saw a wildebeest give birth, from start, to the baby wildebeest taking it's first steps, all within an hour! We immediately felt that human beings might be the weak link in the animal kingdom! We would have been extinct so fast if we had to give birth in an hour, get up, start nudging the baby to stand, and all of us walk away within an hour (otherwise they get munched by hyenas or lions).
Tomorrow, the 12th, we leave for the mountains of Kenya for a few days of hiking around in nature, and Friday the 15th we are going to Mombassa, a Kenyan coastal city, for the weekend. Next Tuesday the 19th, we leave for Zanzibar as we decided to extend our stay there to 10 days, as we are craving the ease of island life. And after that, Dubai and Cairo. So, that's where we are and where we are going. I am not sure if we will have much of a chance to use the internet until we get to Zanzibar (hopefully we can find it there), so we may not be in touch for another week or ten days.
Lots of love from Mikol, Jeremy and Natalie!

Are you guys still going to see the tribe Jeremy wanted to visit?
I just got an email form Dad and I quote, "If you haven’t checked the blog lately, you should. Sounds like they are having the time of their lives! They have been in Africa the past couple of weeks and are now in Kenya. It will be fun to hear all their stories. I’m envious!". Do think he can handle that hiking? I'll just sign this....
Love,
Dad
Sending hugs! I just finished you latest blog. I've been checking daily 8-) How lucky to see that birth, and you sat there for an hour. Patience is a virtue. Happy Valentines Day! If any two people were in love it is you two. You are both still alive and happy! 8-P Every thing you write sounds so beautiful I can't wait to see the photos and hear all about the trip so far. Block out a 24 hour period in Israel and we'll stay up all night and catch up. bwahahahahaha
Can't wait to see you!!!!
Love,
MOMster
Hiya Russ! Yes, we have seen many of the Maasai tribesmen and Jeremy did get to speak to a few that we came in contact with on the way. We saw their villages and heard about their customs. We even stayed at a lodge that was run by them for a night, so we got to see the village way of life a little. And of course, they are always walking around with their cattle.
Hey guys!
Not to Mom you or anything, but please, please try to get your photo cards to a photo place, pronto! Have them put the photos on cds for you and each of you can carry one. Just a precaution, but a worthy one. If we hadn't done that, when we got our camera stolen, we'd have lost all our photos...
love you! sounds like you're having a beautiful time!
Jen
If you have any way to get those pics on a computer, I can give info in terms of a safe place to upload on one of my servers...just as backup.
Stay safe, friends!
